Your support means the world to me!

Hello! I'm Britta. Welcome to Bert&Lou!

Life is full of inspiration.

I love too many things to list, but I have a special spot in my heart for the mountains, books, furry friends, art, donuts, and coffee shops.

My dream is to be a professional student. I want to be an art gallery-curating/bookshop-owning/children's book illustrating/language-learning art-historian neurobiologist. In the meantime I spend my time making art and being a student of life.

I love to draw wild and scribbly sketches. I adore the active liveliness of the pen strokes. I'm always drawn to unfinished-looking art.

I love to paint with heavy impasto strokes. The more sculptural the paint, the better!

I am passionate about art, science, and literature, so of course it only makes sense that I combine the three!  I am currently developing and illustrating a children's book for young naturalists (stay tuned for details).

With a bachelor's degree in fine art, private art classes from the Art Institute of Chicago under my belt, and experience in creative industries ranging from the fashion industry to art supply distribution to art education, it has always been obvious that a fundamental need for creativity flows through me to my very bones.  Bert&Lou started with a passion for wedding and event art for brides (and grooms!) looking to create that extra special, totally unique *something* for their big day.  It has since grown to encompass handmade and hand-painted goods for celebrating the everyday, including an awesome line of paper goods, hand-painted glassware, and one-of-a-kind pieces for the home.

I think it's really about living what your company value is.  My mission is to nurture the human spirit, one illustration, one card, one painting at a time!
