For some reason my productivity has been seriously lacking this week...at least it feels that way. No matter how many things I cross off my to-do lists it feels like I add double that. I work all day only to look around and feel like absolutely nothing happened. Perhaps its the time of year, or the fact that the entire week has been just so dreary, cold and rainy. Who knows. I think once I have all these cards finished up I'll feel more settled about everything. But then again, I keep adding things to my plate that might not be entirely necessary, like redesigning my logo and rebranding (and re-rebranding) myself.
I am super excited about having been commissioned for something a little beyond what I normally offer over at little Bert&Lou. I'm painting a custom watercolor portrait for Annie from the blog Trends Never Sleep which is going to go on one side of her business cards (that I am also designing!). I love commissions because other people have such great ideas and I am so lucky to help make them happen! I love working with all different interests and styles and occasions. It enables me to grow as a person and as an artist.
And guess what--it's Happy Things Thursday again! This week I found the neatest little shop during a delightful fall walk. One of my favorite things in the world no matter where I am is getting a tea or coffee drink and then going for a long, leisurely walk. I might explore a new place, or perhaps I'll take a more familiar route (cough. that means the route that passes the dog park so I can stalk all the cute dogs!). I do it often enough that people who know me know exactly what I'm talking about when I refer to a Tea Walk. I stumbled upon Foursided during one of these tea walks and decided to take a quick peak inside since they sell cards and duhhhh--that's the business I'm trying to break into. While the cards were all hilarious or sweetly sentimental, gorgeously made, and unique, the store was so much more than just the cards. They sold art prints, interesting books, and a lot of handmade gifty things. I was there with the boyfriend and told him he could literally just buy anything in that store for me for Christmas. Or everything. I loved it. They also custom-frame photographs and artwork right in the shop. Mad respect, yo.
Foursided is basically me in store-form. Everything about the place is just so right. Their windows are quite possibly the best part, and that's really saying something because that store is perfectly curated. And I mean Perfectly. If you're ever in the Andersonville or Lakeview neighborhoods of Chicago, make sure to check one (or all) of their three locations out (and while you're there pick me up something, will ya!).
Oh wait....I also found my happy place in the REI in Lincoln Park this week! I totally didn't even consider that the city has outdoor outfitters for those of us who need regular breaks from the concrete jungle. Between the snow sports and camping gear sections, I'm in 7th heaven. I could seriously browse camping supplies for days and never get bored. I have no idea why I have such a fondness for mugs (my boyfriend probably wants to kill me for how many I own already), but it took a lot of willpower to not come home with a new good ol' fashioned speckled camping mug (I did leave with some kickass new ski pants, however).
What are you happy about on this Happy Things Thursday? Did you have a week of exploration and growth? I'd love to hear about it! Other people's joy is just so contagious!
